Collection: Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist known for her many self-portraits inspired by the rich nature and culture of Mexico. She utilised a native folk art style to address issues of identity, gender, class and race in Mexican society.

Often fueled by autobiographical elements and surrealist tendencies, much of her work is rooted in her experiences of chronic pain and health issues following a bus accident.

Her artwork, discovered in the late 1970s became instantly recognisable as a key icon for feminist and LGBTQ+ movements. To this day her work is celebrated for an uncompromising depiction of the female experience and is emblematic of Mexican traditions.
